Theory Translator

Learning to Think Structurally

Summary (140 characters)

Theory Translator is a compendium for structural thinking that humans and AI curate together to learn to think structurally.

Alignment

Mill's trident is a useful structuring. There are others. Do such structurings explain why opinions collide? Can they point to a deeper truth, a primal code, revealing Why?

Problem

We humans are hardly cognizant. We go through motions, assuming What, prattling How, rarely pondering Why. Thinkers tell us How to focus on Why: Allow for more than one perspective; think-in-parallel along different perspectives; structure perspectives; learn to think structurally.

This requires a lot of practice. It helps to collect examples from individual thinkers who share the distinctions they find meaningful. Different thinkers make the same distinctions but use different terms. Let's recognize and distill these patterns. We can develop a language of holistic frameworks, a language of wisdom.

Medium

Theory Translator is an online resource, workflow and community which humans and AI create.

So far, we humans have collected 1,500 examples of conceptual structures. I've curated 329 examples of three levels of awareness: answering, questioning, investigating. These untangle our lives in terms of answers by which we unconsciously know, questions by which we consciously do not know, and investigations by which we match these two mindsets and decide which to apply. In Mill's terms, answers let us hear truth, questions complete it, investigations test it.

I'm curating examples of other basic frameworks, such as the learning cycle of taking a stand, following through and reflecting. For example, human autonomy lets a human take a stand, decentralization allows them to act on that, and truth-seeking has them reflect. Since 1982, I've documented dozens of such structures which make for a conceptual language that I call Wondrous Wisdom.

I'll design a workflow and interface for our team to collect and curate examples. We'll design and train AI tools to help us. They'll search the internet to include a diversity of thinkers, epochs, cultures and disciplines that could interest us. They'll draft entries for inclusion. They'll find related images. They'll associate each entry with similar entries. They'll distill patterns and explain them. They'll converse with us about them. For now, humans will be the curators. We'll make sure each entry is ready for inclusion. We'll see what kinds of mistakes we make and AI makes. We'll write essays presenting the structures and illustrating them with the entries. We'll engage thinkers and relate their terminologies. We'll explore how the structures fit together for a language of wisdom.

Plan

For $3,000, I'll work full-time for three months on our PHP/MySQL interface and AI tools. I'll distributÄ— $3,000 to Econet https://www.e-c-o.net investigators who participate in this workflow, apply AI tools, and contact thinkers we mention to ask for feedback and more examples, especially in consciousness studies. I'm using OpenRouter.ai, the Python library langextract and an Ollama.com model. I may need $1,000 for computing.

Success

In three months, I hope for 10 collaborators and 100 contributors of examples. Ultimately, humans and AI will grow the Econet investigatory community as they document, clarify, learn and apply the language of wisdom within us.
